I WILL BLESS THOSE WHO BLESS YOU
By Solomon Uwumbolibe Mensah
Scripture Reading: Genesis 12:3
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
God spoke these words to Abram when He called him to leave his country and family for a land He would show him. God promised to bless him, protect him, make his name great, and use him to bless all nations.
This promise teaches us that God blesses us not only for our benefit but also so that others may be blessed through us. Our gifts, knowledge, resources, businesses, and opportunities should serve God's purpose and benefit humanity.
1. God Is the Source of Every Blessing: God said to Abram, “I will bless you.” This reminds us that God is the source of our lives, strength, opportunities, and ability to succeed.
Deuteronomy 8:18 teaches that God gives us the ability to produce wealth. Therefore, we must remain humble, grateful, and faithful, remembering that our blessings carry responsibility.
2. God Blesses Those Who Bless Others: God declared, “I will bless those who bless you.” This shows the importance of relationships and the good we can do for one another.
We should appreciate those who encourage, support, and help us fulfil our purpose. Proverbs 11:25 teaches that whoever refreshes others will also be refreshed.
Let your presence bring encouragement, peace, and hope to your family, workplace, church, and community.
3. God Is Our Defender: God said, “Whoever curses you I will curse.” This demonstrates His commitment to His covenant with Abram and His authority to defend His purposes.
When people oppose or mistreat us, we must not seek revenge. Romans 12:19 teaches us to leave room for God's justice.
Do not waste your life fighting everyone who opposes you. Remain faithful to God and continue fulfilling your purpose.
4. Obedience Positions Us to Fulfil God's Purpose: Before God promised to bless Abram, He called him to leave his country and follow His instructions. Abram had to trust God even when he did not know every detail of the journey.
Hebrews 11:8 reminds us of Abraham's obedience by faith. In the same way, we must combine faith with action, honesty, discipline, and hard work.
When God gives you a vision, develop the character and wisdom needed to fulfil it.
5. We Are Blessed to Bless the Nations: God promised that all peoples on earth would be blessed through Abram. This promise ultimately points to Jesus Christ, through whom people of every nation can receive salvation.
Galatians 3:8 connects God's promise to Abraham with the blessing of the nations through faith.
Today, we can bless others by sharing knowledge, creating employment, mentoring young people, supporting vulnerable families, and developing solutions to real problems.
Ask yourself: Who is benefiting from my life? What problem am I helping to solve? How can I use my gifts to serve others?
6. Build a Legacy for Future Generations: God's promise to Abraham extended beyond his lifetime. This teaches us to think beyond personal success and consider the generations that will follow us.
We must build families, businesses, and institutions on integrity, wisdom, accountability, and sound values. Psalm 78:4 encourages us to tell the next generation about God's works.
A meaningful legacy is the good that continues because we lived.
7. Become a Channel of God's Blessing: We can reflect God's goodness in every area of life. In our families, we can promote love and peace. At work, we can demonstrate honesty and excellence. In business, we can solve problems and create opportunities.
Through our finances, we can practise generosity and responsible stewardship. Through leadership, we can serve people fairly and build systems that benefit society.
Let everything God entrusts to you become an opportunity to do good.
Call to Action:
Today, make a conscious decision to become a channel of God's blessing in all twelve areas of life.
1. Spiritual life: Strengthen your relationship with God and encourage someone in faith.
2. Family: Build peace, love, discipline, and understanding in your home.
3. Health: Care for your body and encourage healthy choices.
4. Education and knowledge: Learn continually and share useful knowledge.
5. Career and work: Work diligently, honestly, and with excellence.
6. Business and entrepreneurship: Solve genuine problems and create value for others.
7. Finances and wealth: Practise responsible stewardship and generosity.
8. Relationships: Encourage people, honour others, and pursue reconciliation where possible.
9. Community: Contribute to the well-being and development of others.
10. Leadership and influence: Use your authority to serve rather than exploit.
11. Purpose and personal development: Develop your gifts and turn worthwhile ideas into responsible action.
12. Legacy and the next generation: Teach, mentor, build sound institutions, and leave behind values that can endure.
Do not wait until you become wealthy before helping others. Start with what you have, where you are, and whom you can help today.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promises and for the blessing of salvation through Jesus Christ. Help me to remain faithful, humble, and obedient to Your Word.
Give me wisdom to manage my resources, courage to fulfil my purpose, and a generous heart to bless others. Protect me from bitterness and revenge, and teach me to respond to opposition with faith and integrity. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
